I mean contractors Quantity Surveyor (construction). Over here there are effectively 2 types of quantity surveyor....one that works professionally for a private practise (i.e Bills of Quantities etc).
The other type works for a developer or construction contractor dealing with the financial aspects of a construction site. From contract negotiation to cost reporting.
Let me know if I can explain further.

crgb14, I can only speak from some personal experience and knowldege of some persons involved in your profession. I'd stress that I'm not involved in the construction trades, however. The equivalent specialist here in the U.S. would generally be called an estimator. While there are probably college or trade schools specializing in training estimators, most that I know simply have a strong background in the specific branch of construction. They started as young men (and women) as carpenters, masons or other skills. Many branched off into starting their own small companies and relied on their experience. They are not, to my knowledge, liscensed by a governing agency. Someone of your obvious qualifications should not have a problem being placed here. We live near a medium sized town of 150,000 here in the western U.S. and the economy is literally booming and reflected in the construction of office buildings, commercial structures and homes.
Again, I would simply state that, although some can be professionally trained and educated, most I know are self trained.
Best of luck!
