Is the govornment going to put up the price of soft drinks like they did smoking and alcohol. Becouse of the minority the majority are going to pay more! Or is it what i think just another way of taking more money of you! What do you think? ps: And they say its for our benefit!!!

Are you doubting that obesity is problem?

no, obesity is a problem but putting the prices up isn't the answer. Education is a good start! So, all the people that can afford the price rise, how does putting the price of soft drinks up help them! It doesn't, it gives more money to the govornment, that's where i have the problem ummmm!
Of course it may mean the government doesn't take in more tax if people switch from cola etc to tap water
Wimp, I agree with you , education would be a good start. I am amazed at the amount of sugar in soft drinks and I expect I am not alone. I knew they had a lot of sugar but not average 16 teaspoons per small bottle / can. Most parents would restrict soft drinks when the facts are out there surely ?

flump1. If you put on the bottle the amount of sugar in teaspoons it might hit home better rather than % in a can or bottle!
Yes, I agree wimp...and with other food stuff as well !

thank's flump1
I think most parents already know the drinks are high in sugar, especially the parents of children suffering from obesity, but prefer to keep the child 'sweet' (no pun intended) or the children know how to get their way. Whether the tax will have any impact in such cases, I don't know.
I buy Pepsi Max. No sugar, so I pay more for my drink because I buy what they call fizzy. I agree there is a obesity problem, surely that is down to the parents and not us 7 stone females.
If there was a tax on hot air that shower in parliment would be the biggest payers
