This thread is not for the faint-hearted, but is a serious question!

#1 daughter (she'll be 3 in May) is getting to be an expert in peeing in the loo, no accidents, asking in plenty time to go etc etc.

But, she will not poop in the loo! She still wears a nappy for sleeping in and has started to store her poop up until she's heading for bed. This means that she's in bed for about 30 minutes before shouting to get a clean nappy.

I cannot persuade her to try to poop in the loo (or potty)!

Any ideas?

have you asked her why?

Reading this it sounds like I'm not happy about changing her nappy after she's gone to bed!

The problem is that when she does need a poop in the daytime, she'll start asking for a nappy and when I try to get her to sit on the loo instead all hell breaks loose. She just doesn't want to poop in the loo or her pants (I'm happy enough to deal with poopy pants!).

So I'm stuck between letting her have a nappy to poop in, or leaving her in her pants (after trying her on the loo or potty). If I don't let her have a nappy she is holding on and my main concern is that she'll become constipated and I really don't want her to suffer like that.

Parenthood is such a battle sometimes! Any help or advice would be gratefully received!

Sorry, woof, your reply wasn't there when I submitted mine.

I've asked her why, but she's not letting on what the problem is!
I am not sure if you can get too far till you understand what the problem is....maybe lots of little huggy chats when she isn't bursting to go until she feels she can tell you?

It's strange as she's more than chuffed with herself about peeing in the loo. Just not sure about pooping in there!

I was hoping someone else had had a similar experience with their child?
Just rub her nose in it....

Just joking. Have you tried letting her roam the house with no nappy on for an hour or two? Maybe she feels that she can only poop when she has one on. It's just all about encouragement I guess. When you go to, let her know so that she may want to copy Mum and Dad. When she does (as I'm sure you did when she started weeing in the potty) you just have to make a big deal of it, clapping, congrats, party balloons etc....OK, maybe not the balloons.
It appears trying at the moment I'm sure but a little coaxing will get her there soon enough.

Thanks for the link, woof!

I've been very careful not to show any repulsion about poop related accidents, and I have to confess to letting her have a look in the loo after I've been myself.
The last post in the link is very helpful. I'm sure she'll come right in time!

Thanks CD. We're very good at making a big deal of her successes. Cheering and clapping for every pee in the loo. Even saying that it's OK to poop in her nappy but it would be better in the loo.

I guess it's just like everything else with kids, it will all come in time.
There is a fantastic resource you can print off and use to help encourage poops in the loo and potty. We used it wil our daughter and it really worked. It is basically a story about how poo wants to go and join his friends in pooland. It sounds a bit crazy, but I cannot recommend it highly enough! Brilliant, PringlesQueen.

I'll give anything a go!
That is brilliant, pringles!
This is my street cred out of the window.

My youngest had a similar problem. I let him see my poo down the loo and then put on a silly voice and pretended "mummy poo" in the pan was crying for "baby poo" to join her. It worked.
It honestly worked for us! Good luck
I think you're half way there because you're patient and not too pushy about the poo in the loo. Well done.

lol @ Mrs O! Have a vision of you (as your avatar) doing poo voices! Might even give it a go myself.

Thanks quizzy. We are trying so hard not to make a big deal about any of it, just encourage and praise her as much as possible. I'm quietly confident she will have got the hang of it by the time she's 30...
My youngest was the same. She knew she wanted to go, I knew she wanted to go, but she just couldn't go on the toilet. I used to put a nappy on her, then when she had finished, I took the nappy off and we tipped the poo down the toilet. Can't remember how long we did this for, but after a while, we cut out the nappy and she was ok.

Thanks puzzled, we're actually trying that too. She seems to know what it is and even waves bye-bye to it when she flushes it away...

Good to know that these things have worked for others.

Thanks everyone.
My girl was the same. I tried everything bribery, showing her where it went all the stuff. I had to take nappies with me just in case she wanted to do one.

In the end it seems it was the new position, ie doing it in the nappy is more of a squat but on the loo it is a sit. If that makes sense :-)

I put her on the loo with a nappy on to do the deed, within 3 days she was sorted. Hope this helpsx
