Sore Thumb

i felt a funny ,itchy sensation in my thumb last night,when i looked it had a huge lump on it(inside of thumb),it became very discoloured and swollen,i put an ice pack on it.today it is all black and blue but not swollen.did i do something to a vein in my thumb? should i just leave it alone and let it heal????

sqad I understand your minor trauma answer but I get them when i am doing nothing and have done nothing for some time previously....in the middle of an evening watching tv for instance. as kate said, there is a hot itchy sensation, then the blood vessel bursts and bruising appears.
I am sure it cant be anything nasty as I have had them since I was a teenager and kept a pet pterodactyl.

woofy.....I understand what you are saying and can only say that i have not come across this situation that you mention.

Must be idiopathic........Drs always say that when they don't know...;-)

I know....that and iatrogenic are the first two bits of doctor speak that I was taught. :-) Its not that unusual, often comes up as a subject on forums where ladies of a certain age gather.
