Does your friend like doing jigsaws?
Question Author
ooooh! That's a good idea!
Has your friend got an MP3 player you could get her a music download voucher? Or a CD compilation of songs you know she likes - maybe music with memories. Some feelgood choccies. Is she able to get out of bed to bathe? If so then some nice bath stuff maybe she can have a bit of a pamper with. Are there treats she likes like hot chocolate or specialty tea of nice coffee? Maybe a goodie bag full of lots of little treats. For my fantastic best mate's last birthday she was away so I got loads of little things she likes and hid them all round her flat with post it notes.
Could you get your parents a voucher for a meal out and get your friend some sort of craft starter-pack?
for your parents silver photo frame with baby picture.

How about getting a nice photo done and giving it to your parents in a lovely frame or a on a small canvas print?
Ooh has she a laptop she can use in bed? How about a set subscription to something like Lovefilm (that kind of thing where you pay a set fee and can watch films, TV series and such) if they do ones you can put a limit on?
Bednobs, if I was your mum I'd gladly pay you, and shower you with gifts, for the sheer delight of having my little granddaughter all to myself as often as possible :o)
How about a really nice big bunch of spring flowers? I always think a nice colourful load of flowers says whatever you want without being over the top.

flowers are lovely, but my dad was here too, and they are not really a "dad" present
My parents used to have my two boys on a fairly regular basis. I bought my mum flowers every week, just a small bunch, and as my dad loved thorntons treacle toffee I'd buy him a bag of that whenever I passed a thorntons shop.
Maybe two or three times a year I'd take them and the boys out for lunch somewhere, and we always had a birthday meal at our house with cake and candles whenever it was mum or dads birthday. They loved all that and were a huge part of our boys lives as they grew up, and I think would have been quite embarrassed to have been given expensive gifts.
Of course, you know your own parents best Bednobs and I know you've really appreciated them having baby overnight for the first time :)

oh my god yes - i didn't even do anything very exicting - just went to a hotel, checked in, went to sleep, got up for dinner, went back to sleep, got up for breakfast, went back to sleep then came home! I don't want them to think i've taken them for granted though :)
Do they like Gardening or Birds...If so maybe a joint yearly membership to RHS or RSPB
