H, I wondered if anyone can suggest anything as Ive tried everything I can think of and still no joy.
I had a wireless deskset ( keyboard and mouse ) which worked fine for ages. Then the mouse started only working from side to side not up or down, so I replaced batteries and reset it all. Still did the same thing. Uninstalled, reinstalled, still the same ( the mouse tracks are clean).
Tried a different mouse and keyboard and that mouse is still the same, works perfectly side to side, but is a real struggle to get to move up and down.
Looked at the settings, everything looks fine. It's defeated me.
Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.

I hate to say this, but it may be your motherboard :( I had a similar problem, if I left the mouse alone the pointer would either move vertically and disappear off the top of the screen, or move horizontally and disappear off the left hand side. I reinstalled drivers, changed mouse, changed type of mouse, nothing worked. I even changed to a USB mouse which did not work because of the problem with the PS/2 mouse port. It ended up being the traces from the mouse port on the motherboard, had to replace the motherboard eventually as the problem started causing electrical problems on the mobo which affected everything else..
It might be worth your while to get your motherboard checked out, if you know someone who can do cheaply and thoroughly.

Hi, yeah battery change was the first thing I did and I was afraid that someone was going to say "motherboard" bc that's my deepest darkest fear.I was toying with trying a usb mouse just to see of that made a difference, but it's sounding suspiciously like the symptoms you descibe Geoff:(
I think it's time to get it checked out by someone with more knowledge than I.
Thank you all for your answers, very much appreciated.
