Friend of ours has threatened to take an overdose due to a relationship break up. I was talking to her on facebook and she said to tell her ex that she loved him and said goodbye to me.

Now i can't get hold of her, she won't answer phones and im worried.

She's too far away for us to go over and i don't know anyone in the area.

Should i call the police ?

Yes I think you should. It could be attention seeking but it could be the real thing. I would call them best to call the local police station to where she lives.
Call the police. And keep trying to phone her
yes...and they have to do a welfare check on that person. phone them asap....x
i would phone the police,if she has done something silly you would never forgive yourself.
Yes, the police won't mind.
Yes.
yes but don't call 999
call 101 or the local police number if you know it
her local police station would be the first call to make -they can then put procedures into place to give her help -even if it is 'just' a call for help thats what she needs -help -do it now -good luck!

Thanks all....called 101 and they put me through to the 999 service.
Please let us know she is alright.? think we are all worried now. Brenda x
You have done the right thing, hope all is ok.
Here's hoping she is just thinking things over and not answering calls.
I can completely understand where she is coming from, I was in the same situation 4 weeks ago and I was struggling to cope and had suicidal feelings. Hope she is okay x
If you're not sure of the local station's number, just phone your nearest station and they will get the message through to the local one.
People really contemplating suicide don't announce it on face book. If she had wanted your advice she would have asked for it.
Sometimes hammerman there is a fine line between a cry for help and actually being suicidal. You did the right thing.
