That was the first school that i attended........milk was given, in the winter it was warmed over a fire, it never closed during snow problems, smacking was allowed, dinner money was taken, no Muslims or immigrants and we all had an equal chance of getting the 11+ going onto grammar school and university.

In class 5, the teacher Miss.A...went out with Americans and was labelled a "slapper" by some........;-)

Have things changed?.......yes.......for the better?

No surprise there then. When schools hit rock bottom the local authorities/government throw money at them to drag them back up a.s.a.p.

Schools struggling along on poor financing but managing to achieve decent results (according to league tables) through dedicated teachers and staff continue to suffer whilst the worst go into freefall knowing the big cheque is around the corner.

School Milk, yuk. At my school every now and again they delivered orange juice in those little bottles as a treat.

Kiss chase, still remember trying to escape the lads chasing me and I got stuck behind the wooden board with the schools name on in the playground. Took 3 teachers to get me out.

I loved school milk, I was a milk monitor. In the infant school we had malt and cod liver oil all from the same big spoon. I opted out because I had Virol each morning really it was because David Hargreaves always had candles running from his nose and I didn't want any of that. My mum was upset one day she rang me to say that an big man with a turban had just come out of our old house, 'he must be living there' I told her the place was teeming with them now good job we'd moved. Things were much simpler then, happy memories of some things, whip and top, skipping songs, snake belts for lads. White
ankle socks and gas tar do not mix. Sherbert dabs and tiger nuts.

Too bloody old.

Both my primary and secondary schools that I went to has been knocked down - but i still ended up commanding a star ship

While you were 'up there' in the Enterprise looking for new frontiers, things were going on down here.

Just remembered I was an "ink monitor" - had the important job of filling the inkwells with ink when I was in the top class, we also had a "pencil monitor" who sharpened all the pencils in a machine clamped onto a desk like an old fashioned mincer.
