sick pay for a part-timer

i have just broken my foot and been put in a cast. I've been given a sick note for 6 weeks and just wanted to know if I am entitled to any kind of sick pay. I am contracted to work 14 hours a week but I have only worked for the company for just over three months. I don't think my contract says that i'm entitled to any sickpay at all. cheers!

Sorry to hear about your foot claireyfairy-not a good start to the new year!!

I'm not an expert but looking online and from experience, You may be entitled to Statutory Sick pay (this is not based on any length of service so can claim from day 1), if you earn more than �82 per week before deductions: more details here www.dwp.gov.uk/lifeevent/benefit/statutory_sick_pay.asp

In additon to this, your employer may have its own scheme-this should be explained in your contract of employment. Every firm is different and you'll have to read it carefully as it may be based on length of service, so you may get something but not a full entitlement, or you may get nothing. My previous company required 1 years service before payment, my current one pays from day 1 but only for 3 months at full pay, but once you have a years service you get a full 6 months - if you see what I mean!

If you don't qualify for SSP, you may be able to claim benefits of some description-probably best you contact your local job centre about this as I'm not sure about that!
