At work and every time I close the car door I get static shocks. So much so at work that I actually hate having to touch anything now because they are so frequent and strong, they actually hurt.

What can you do to stop them?

I am a shocker too. Its horrible in shopping malls, I dread touching anything metal.
I used to have the same problem when wearing Crocs, I easily solved the problem of shocks from the car, //just hold on to the metal of the car door when getting out of the car// once you are out you will be discharged.
I have had a couple of cars that I used to get static shocks from ( after driving them a while ) the door handles, coincidentally both of them were Vauxhalls.
When getting out of the car touch the door with a key to discharge. The charge will jump from the key to the car and you wont feel it.
Dustypuss- that was really funny!!
I agree with RATTER15
