Hi, I asked the following questions a few day ago but never got any answers so I am now re-posting in the hope that somebody with the same phone can help me.
Hello, I have had the above phone for 2 years now and the contract on it is now due for renewal, I have decided to get the Samsung Galaxy 3.
My original phone is in first class condition as it has been looked after and kept in a case however I do not want to sell it without first removing everything on it that points to me, I have been told that the safest way to do this is to go into settings and do a "Factory Reset" but what I don't want to do is wipe out the time/weather widget (the phone did come with it already on) so is it possible to back up the phone as it is now to computer and if so how is it done? also is it possible to unlock the phone from Virgin Mobile so that it will take any sim card?

If the Time/Weather App was part of the original system setup, then it most likely will survive. But if it is an additional App from the APP store then it most probably be wiped.
A 'How to perform a Factory Reset' video is available here:
Backup / Transfer of the data to PC can be accomplished by copying all data to the Galaxy SD memory card and then manual transfer of SD to PC, if the PC has an SD reader, thats also of course assuming you have an SD available.
Another option, and there are others if you do some Google research, is to use an app named 'KIES AIR' which should already be installed on the Galaxy. Information on how to use this app is available here:

To unlock the phone, assuming it is now totally contract free, a phone shop will most likely offer the service for a small fee of approx. £15 to £25 at a guess.
