Also I think you will find that they were prone to rust around the edges of the wheel arches, where the plastic covers, bottom of the doors and the back hatch around the key lock,.As tonyav says that's a lot of mileage for a small engine. Costs wise I wold not pay more than £850-£900 for a good one with a decent service history. Hope this helps.

Do the headlights work? to change the bulbs you need hands the size of a two-year old.
These cars are cheap to maintain and are surprisingly nippy. Good luck !

Thanks very much for the advice. I saw the car today, engine nice and dry, no signs of oil or leaks. Large area of rust around the rear wiper / boot lid, filler cap and one or two scabs in other places. No service history, no rattling from the engine or clutch. Brakes felt a little grindy and needed a decent push to feel as if it was going to stop in time. Inside was clean and tidy, seats unmarked. Actually had 110k on the clock. Decided against it as I think a couple of hundred to put the rust issues right. Guy was asking £950 including a 12 MOT.
