Anti-Malarial Drugs

Can anyone tell me what the issue is with Psoriasis sufferers taking Avlocar/Paludrine anti-malarials?

A contraindication is noted but not the potential problem. I'm assuming a flare up but would like to be pointed towards some documented evidence to support risk.

I have never heard of an acute axacerbation of Psoriasis brought on by anti- malarial drugs....certainly does exist with chloroquine.

A side effect of progranil (Paulidrine) is skin rashes. Maybe if someone sufferes from psoriasis, they notice the effect more because it`s aggravated.

I've done that and seem to get equally woolly answers with all searches. I think I might just take the risk.....I've never had pustular psoriasis it could be an interesting experience!

I'm just being tight fisted as I have a lot of this anti-malarial to hand and don't want to go the expense of Malarone when it isn't necessary and what I have suits where I'm travelling to.

I always thought malaria drugs were area specific - does this make a difference?

Correct RSVP, and what I have to hand is suited to where I am travelling and would save me the cost of getting Malarone on a private script.

EcclesCake -I presume you are talking about the combined Chloroquine (Avloclor)/Proguanil (paludrine) tablets.
Looking in the BNF it just says "may exacerbate psoriasis".
I can see a few case reports reporting a acute flare up of psoriasis with a combination of these drugs.
