I am hoping that somebody ma be ablet o help me a little.
For a number of years, once a year i get a cough, this is quite a violent cough that hurts, is loud and goes on for quite a while each 'cough' i sometimes retch with it. It has in the past been accompanied with a wheeze. This time its just as bad, but with no wheeze. i have been to see the nurse practioner for my 'normal'steriods treatment - which have worked in the past, but she says that as there is not wheeze it has not gone on my chest therefore seh is not going to perscribe me the steriods, i am pretty sure that the wheeze will come, but it in the meantime can anyone help with any treatment ideas for making me a little more comfortable. I have tried steam and am taking lots of paracetomel. but still in agony. In additon i have lost my voice - this is the first time i have lost it, so appriciate this may have nothing to do with it and am not too worried about that yet.
I am trying to get in to see the doctor at the moment, but have tired 3 times this morning with out answer so thought i would give AB a try!
Well.....you don't HAVE to wheeze with a cough for it to be allergic in origin.
I would agree with you that a steroid inhaler may well be needed, but until you get to see your doctor, then try Benylin which might, just might be of help.
Squd, it wasn't an inhaler that i have been given in the past but a weeks course of tablets. - i have been using my ventalin inhaler also, but this has not effect. - i do have really really mild asthma which presents during really cold days only.
I will try and get some Benylin - not ever tried this one. and i didn't know that Ratter, about Codeine.
Why don't you ask your G.P. if you can have an x-ray. At least that would give you peace of mind.Since worry makes the symptoms worse. fter that the G.P would know what to prescribe for your problem.
Thanks again, peps - double dose, living life on the edge - but if it works i am willing to risk it. ;0)
GB - this is not the first time i have had this type of cough, and have in the past been hospitilised as i have been unable to catch my breath with it, they did an X-ray then and there is just nothing on my lungs - apprentenly it is all in my thout????? - prehaps thats because i am quite often coughing up my lungs so there is nothing left to view!!!
