not sure why you needed to buy Real Player as theres plenty of legit free apps out there that are far better.
I wasnt aware of a browser that has a "download" from youtube button as standard, usually you d/load via a browser plug-in/extension that you install or via one of the many sites that a google search will turn up.
Firefox has some very easy to use add ons for d/loading

It might be because Youtube has changed the coding on their website to block such downloads.
It's technically illegal to store Youtube content on your PC.Youtube have a legal obligation to copyright owners to try to prevent it happening, so they're constantly finding ways to block download software. If so, you'll have to wait until the Real team can provide a patch to get round the problem.
Anyway, I'm totally mystified as to why anyone would want to pay money for the dreaded RealPlayer. The best two video players are 100% free

Many thanks for answering my query, I am new to this "Computer Lark" never before having one, I saw real player advertised and so bought it without any knowledge of other "players" that were free.

There's no reason why you can't download both VLC and GOM, but remember that (if you accept the default options) whichever one you download last will be the one which is 'associated' with your video files. (i.e. if you double-click on a video file's icon, that's the one which will open).
VLC has been praised by just about every computer magazine ever published (as well as by BBC technology programs). It's generally regarded as the best program.
However GOM is far less known but my own personal favourite.
