Why are we so insular? Many European countries have summer football, including some not that far away, and I would be all for a winter break in the UK apart from one thing; our bl00dy weather is so unpredictable that we could end up prolonging the season if, for example, we took a break in January and it was fine, then snowed all of February.
Having said that, the Qatar (and Russia) World Cup awards were deeply corrupt (I'm still waiting on FIFA suing David Conn, but they won't, because his book was spot on). Sky money will have a big say in any decision on this, and it is still damned warm out there in winter. We used to kick off at 21:30 to protect our pasty delicate Western complexions.
