Get it here:

Serif tend to give away their older software in the hope it will encourage you to buy some of their newer software.
Here is Serifs main site, where you can see that Serif Web Plus 10 is the latest version, but version 6 should be enough for you to create a simple site.

Try WebPlus. It's produced by Serif and, like all of their software, fairly user-friendly.
Serif have a great policy of making older editions of most of their programs available free of charge. Obviously, they hope that you'll buy the latest version but, since you don't need all of the 'bells and whistles' of the latest version, WebPlus 6 (which is completely free) should be fine for your needs:

Why not try Nvu (also free and cross-platform ieMac as well):-

They also have tutorials and a good manual now. However, you might want to investigate setting up a 'Blog' (which you would control - some are free), or even better, a WIKI (which would allow others to contribute and take the load off you!). Look here:-

If you're looking for a community sort of site, you might be better off jumping straight in at the deep end and go for something like Xoops which is a CMS (content management system)... although it sounds a little scary, it just means that your website is powered by a database instead of using flat, static pages. That way, you can easily create the event calendar and photo gallery etc by installing various modules... To make it even easier, some web hosts allow you to install these systems with a couple of clicks and all you have to do is add the content! I'm setting up a website for my village here - http://carharrack.com/main/ - although not finished, I got this up and running in about 10 minutes!! If you want, drop me and email via the "Contact" menu on the site and I can help you further if you want!
