Car makers never seem to think before naming a car, the funniest being Vauxhauls Nova - doesn't go in Spanish but here Kia have dropped a right clanger
I used to know the Marketing Director at Colt/Mitsubishi UK who swore blind that the story behind the naming of their sports saloon; the Starion was absolutely true:
i.e. Executives in Japan wanting it to be named after a virile male horse.
Many moons ago the cough lozenges called Zubes had the advertising slogan, " Go suck a Zube " unfortunately in Arabic that is the name of the male appendage. I remember the Arabs found it highly amusing. As indeed we did who had a mongel knowledge of the language, but the company didn't catch on for several months. I don't know how it affected their sales.
I've already posted this but it's disappeared.
However what I said was " In 1965 Rolls Royce named their car Silver Mist
but in German Mist translates as Dung/Manure/Muck.
