Times Crossword Club

My subscription has run out and when I try to resubscribe I find that I am directed to subscribe to the Time Newspaper and not the Crossword Club, only. Is this a way to make me pay for something I don't want, just to join the crossword club? I've tried emailing, but no answer for a couple of days. Anyone with the same problem?

Daily Telegraph has a crossword club you can subscribe to without buying the paper/It costs £30 per year and has a weekly prize of £50 and a monthly one of £100 among other prize crosswords.

Yes, but I've been doing the Times for fifty years and it seems a shame that I have to change now, because of what I regard as 'sharp practice' by the newspaper.

Yes there has been mention of problems with resubscribing for the last few months. Also mentioned on Derek Harrison's site here..

I was in the strange position that when my subscription to The Crossword Club ran out, I realised as a paper subscriber I could have had free access all along. So, long term I gained.

Hopefully, The Times will come up with some compomise that perhaps just raises the subscription a little.

The Guardian crossword are all still free!

Thanks, everyone, let's look on the bright side and hope that the club can be subscribed independently, still. Slaney, I have emailed them and talked to them, but no joy yet - as per usual.

From the FAQ section on the site:

Have you tried phoning them? Are you in the UK?

Roslyn. Yes, I tried phoning the number you quoted. She told me that there was a problem on the website and gave me an email address to contact them. I couldn't subscribe over the telephone. I've emailed them, but, as usual, they are very slow to respond, or just ignore you completely.

Come back Times all is forgiven! Just had an email from them saying that there are problems for subscribing and I have been given a temporary subscription until end of April. Just checked and sure enough I'm back in business again. Cheers all.

Yes I think it probably is.
For some time now the club has not been accepting new members. And existing subscribers to the newspaper now get the crossword club free.
It sort of makes sense, but it's taking them a hell of a long time to sort it out
