Japanese Children

When i was in Japan last summer I learnt that children have a kind of notebook they carry with them during the holidays. Adults can write comments in this notebook (even total strangers) to say how well behaved the child was etc. I must say all the children I saw in the street or in the trains and buses were very well behaved. They probably showed this book to their parents and were recompensed for good notes. Does anyone have any idea what this notebook is called (it does have a name) as I'd like to search it on the net?

I googled it and that seems to be a communication tool between school staff and parents, nothing about strangers writing in it.

That was also true in the 1920s/30s/40s . The Japanese are renowned for good behaviour.

Japanese stranger danger

In Hong Kong which I know is not Japan - I said as a Harpurhey Lad to a gurl: I had better escort'take you to a bus stop or taxi rank [10 30 pm]

and she said: you just dont understand - the Chinese dont attack women....

and I commented yup I sure dont....

Sorry for replying late. This book does exist and I know children have it with them even during holiday time which I think is quite short over there. Will just have to keep searching... Thanks for your posts.
