Working a week in hand
2 Answers
I have just started a part time at a local shop. My employer says I have to work a week in hand. Is this still the law as I have only given him my N.I. details and have signed no terms and conditions of employment.

It's fairly common practice for employees in weekly-paid jobs to be paid for the first week at the end of their second week of employment but there's nothing in law to state either that this should or shouldn't happen. (Employees in monthly-paid jobs often have to work for between 5 and 10 weeks before they get paid anything. Every employer has their own practices).
