Good feeling re this site and am glad I found it - it is great to be able to put your postings in and somebody out there will try and help you however great or small. I hope I put my wee input in there without the swearing of course. You know I do have loads of friends but not in a million years could they help me with all the answers I get from here - they look for answers from me - and secretly when they do I come on here and then I tell them and they oh Conn you are so brainy - hahahhah. I'll keep it a secret.

You should have carried on with Janet and Jim ;)
I tried to do it in a Homer type voice.

Ps

that Prudie .....keep your eye on her (could be one of those trouble causers)
Gness, there was no nasty comment, just some gentle ribbing about stream of conscience style posts.....complete with an appropriate emoticon.

I'm astonished Conn is not familiar with emoticons and even when the post and the use of emoticons were explained she was still determined to not let go of her skirts.

I do not condone bullying and I agree there are some fragile personalities on here, I think Conn is tougher than many and should be treated accordingly. Tip toeing around an individuals foibles will make for a very sterile AB.

I work with adult deaf students who are brushing up their English and I am so impressed by them. I can't imagine how people who are deaf learn to read and write, as I (like many others) learnt to read and write through sounding words out. How on Earth they manage, I really don't know. I think you should be very proud of your English skills Connemmara.
Eccles....there was gentle ribbing which is fine and often a good way to include the unsure......but I still consider one post unnecessary and possibly hurtful. It's probably my fault that I can't see it served a purpose.
Marijn.....I worked as a signer with seven to eleven year old deaf children. Learning to read was not easy but they always amazed me.

I Forgive you Zacsmaster and will be back since I got a lot of persuaders. Will familiarise myself with the emoticons that Eccles told me about.
:-) x
Gness, that must have been lovely. I sign too, and my students are 20 to 50 years old. Connemmara's English is better than theirs, actually.
Come back Connemmara; it's lovely to have a thread called 'Good Feeling'.
Oh good. You're back.
Signing is so interesting....my kids taught me the swear words. x
My niece is profoundly deaf, I have to trust her when she teaches me sign language........I am frequently nervous when a mischievous grin appears on her face :-(
Oh god Eccles NO!!!!! I was "taught" fantastic in my early days. The head asked me what I thought of the special assembly he had given. I signed ....Sh*t-hot.
Hence my nerves Gness, my neice is my Mini-Me......I know what to fear!
Question Author
Just to end this posting - I never learned to sign - I am a lipreader and have done so from the age of 2 - never was taught - it just came naturally and mum never knew I was deaf until about 3 - she said I kept saying to her - "turn your face to me" but she never knew bless her - so when anybody's back is to me I simply cannot understand them - may catch a word or two - I love singing (which I can't do) so because I can't hear the lyrics - I internet my favourite ones and print them out so when the music plays at least I understand them. When you lose one faculty you get another one.
Good to see you back connie.
