Given we have no livestock and our land is in a Biosphere in Andalucia, what is considered the best way of fertilising 12000m� of land to grow Almonds, Olives and Vines?

I assume chemicals are not used. Is the Biosphere not coordinated in any way with committee or workers who can offer advice? Would have thought the best source of advice would come from locals or people who 'set the rules'. Do neighbours have any livestock you can let run on the land; is there a source of organic fertiliser available (seaweed, spent hops, composted waste, treated sewage?). What about growing a nitrogen fixing ground plant and after the growing season mulching it into the topsoil?

Hi Alan,

The term 'Biosfera' seems a very loose one, and there would seem to be three classifications for this...our land seems to have been in the past fertilized by 'Amoniaca', which I think is the Spanish for Amonium Nitrate (?).

The local laws dictate that our land must be ploughed regularly to keep down weeds and prevent fires spreading during the extremely dry summer months.

There is a Pig farm nearby and we have yet to make enquiries re. buying some of this manure, if the farmer himself has any to spare..he is allowed to grow wheat.

A goatherd goes past regularly, but our land has nothing for them to eat due to the ploughing.

It seems we will have to continue using the Amoniaca!
