Call from admin office of a catalogue I have used previously. They have a promotion on with a competition company where they offer unlimited entries to thousands of comps, plus entry to a draw for a million pounds a day for a month. Would I like entry to all of this? Yes I say but what is the catch? There is a small admin charge of £2.99 per week that is added to your catalogue bill. What would you have done? I told them No Thanks.

I would have said no to Caran. It works out at about £155 a year. I wouldn't spend that in competitions!

So effectively it's a continuous £3 weekly wager. Not for me, if I want to make a bet I'll do so on an individual basis on what I want to bet on.

I enter quite a few competitions but they are all free to enter, except crosswords which cost me a stamp.
