Lies

OK we've all seen about Mr Huhne and Ms Price and how they are now paying the price for their lies.
Some posters deem it "OK" to lie about the little things. Strangely, I also saw this article today where it seems that more and more of us will lie to get a small fiscal advantage http:// www.con fused.c om/home -insura nce/art icles/a re-you- an-hone st-or-o pportun istic-i nsuranc e-fraud ster.
So where do you consider the line is drawn between honesty and dishonesty? Is it OK to lie about a "small" insurance claim? Is it OK to take your partner's driving points? Is it OK to lie as long as you don't get caught.........

(AND this is NOT about the Huhne/Price sentencing - that's being covered elsewhere).

I think that about sums it up for me -
I do not believe there are people out there who never lie -they just call it something else -being diplomatic or nice - I challenge anyone on here -man our woman -to say they have never told someone they do not look nice when asked by someone who looks less than nice -they justify it because its doing no harm -its not really lying -but yes it is, and so what?
I can be perfectly honest (HA HA) under the cloak of anonymity and say that yes -I would lie -especially to an insurance company that has had £1000's of pounds out of me -my injury would be a little more painful and my anxiety elevated. I would also lie to authorities to get my husband or child out of bother -controversial -but I bet a lot of people think the same but dare not say so.
I would draw my line at lying to anyone about how I felt about a situation or a relationship -this is when totally honesty is a must as you cannot address a problem until you admit there is one.

You should have a circle of pals to whom you never lie.
Not even about their clothes.
If they look like a tramp in their new outfit, you have to tell them that the dress is just not them, and you way preferred the one they wore last week.
If their butt looks big in their jeans, just tell them that the way those jeans are cut doesn't really work on you.
But never tell them they look fab.
Apart from anything else, once you've told a pal that she looks all wrong in something, then she will know you're telling the truth when you say she looks good in something else.

Mrs. O, your post has reminded me of a situation I was in a few years ago. OH and I were on a boat with 10 others and the boat was involved in a slight accident. It was only slight and no-one needed hospital treatment. In fact, no-one even needed any first aid, apart from being a little shaken up.
Anyway, someone brought up the idea of putting in a claim for whiplash, and all ten of them decided it was a good idea. OH and I were the only ones who said we weren't interested, and they really couldn't understand why we weren't interested.
A couple of them even said we were mad not to "take advantage" of the situation. Must say I was quite saddened by this. The thought of having to lie to my doctor to support a bogus whiplash claim horrified me. Could never do it.

good on you, mrs c, may your reward be greater in the long run - as I believe it will. Such blatant lying in cases like you outline will (eventually) be caught out - even if you "win," the tennis ball of life will come back over the net, somehow, and nail you to an even bigger cost. So play it straight and, at least, you sleep better.
