Does anyone know the exact procedure for the election of the Pope? If they had to get a two thirds majority and didn't do so - did they have to drop out of the next vote? As there were five votes before a new Pope was chosen, would any of them change their vote if the candidates didn't have to drop out of the running after each election?

I can't argue with you on the finances of the RC church ChillDoubt and apologise for my facetious comment on 'drop in the ocean'. However, the new guy is a Jesuit and should remember the persecution by the Nazis in WWII. We'll wait and see if anything develops there.
No need to apologise Wharton, I took it in good spirit.
I think he looks like a lovely pope and I wish him all the best in his endeavours to bring all the catholics into line and to start behaving, and of course whirled peas!
how they pick the Pope:

there was a nice one in the Telegraph with the cardinals sitting down to a game of poker....but can't find it on line.
I have enjoyed every minute of it....it ended too quickly for me. I enjoy pageantry, rituals and " Pomp and circumstance" to me it signifies hard work, discipline and devotion to one,s task.
Changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace, opening of Parliament, Black Rod, the Memorial flight.........anything with precision, pomp and celebrations.

Thanks all you Catholics.
Bless you sqad...lol xx
I also love traditions, rituals and all the stuff that goes with it.
As, Sqad says, Black Rod, Changing of the Guard, Trooping the Colour, etc.

Not a Catholic, not really anything if I'm honest....just a lover of ceremony!
I saw the one about them playing poker, love the other one too.
It's light-hearted.

I love traditions too, it's a sign of stability in an ever-changing world.
