If you've had a great past with a happy "darling buds of May " childhood then it's great to think about the past, but if your past has been negative in any way then aside from thinking about how you can make that work for you positively don't dwell on it.
I used to live very much in the past when I was younger and it did me no good at all.
Now I realise that I have a life that stretches ahead of me to the future and not back to a past I didn't want at the time and that now seems to have no relevance to me as the person I am today.
Cherish the past. Enjoy the present. Look forward to the future. Somebody once told me that worrying about the future is like paying interest on a debt which has not yet been acquired.
On the other hand, it's sensible to live sensibly and plan financially for the future. Nobody wants to live an impoverished and unhealthy old age.
