amazing that someone made a career out of something that is essentially one joke!

bedknobs, the "one joke" certainly got him noticed, but that isn't all he was about. his act was very observation-based, and didn't lend itself to the television of today, where a lot of today's audience has the attention span of a gnat.

Remember it well - he was very clever.

I remember seeing him in the old Variety Club at Batley. He was on stage for around an hour and you could barely drink for laughing, his "Mike" gag might have kick started his career and made his name but he was very funny comic and one of the breed who could be funny with out being crude.
