Puttanesca ... Seriously?
26 Answers
BF coming this weekend.
Been looking for something simple to cook for supper.
Either I take my pals out ... or I have them over and cook for them ... which can be a bit hit and miss.
Anyway, I've found this Jamie recipe ... Spaghetti alla Puttanesca.
I mean ... puttanesca ... seriously?
Why is it called that?
I'm hoping that it's not because of the tuna.
It looks quite simple, though.

I thought it was called that because it meant even a wh0re could cook it it's so simple. Like a wh0re in the kitchen and a cook in bed sort of thing.

Puttanesca is derived from the word puttana, a colloquialism for “prostitute” Nigella has a recipe for this and calls it '***'s spaghetti'. Her explanation for the name is "The general consensus seems to be that this is the sort of dish cooked by slatterns who don't go to market to get their ingredients fresh, but are happy to use stuff out of jars and tins".
