How To Wire A 2-Way One Gang Dimmer Switch
6 Answers
I'm trying to wire a 2-way one gang dimmer switch.
On the new switch there is a C and L1 & L2.
In my wall is the earth cable which earths the box.
And three red cables and three black cables.
Currently the black cables are not connected anywhere just into a small plastic connector.
How do I wire this dimmer switch?
Thanks

Red & black are the old colour code, some fool opted to change them to something less instinctive, so we now have the colour of earth as live, go figure.
Red will be live, black neutral, however you need to identify which is supplying the mains and which is taking it elsewhere and which goes off to teh light`1
If you need to ask what goes where and you don't have the experience to know instictively what you need to find out and do, then the advice above is probably wise. Get someone with experience to sort it.
