When Will These People Ever Learn?

During a week when a father and son died on a mountain, here we read of another irresponsible pair venturing out in these conditions. It puts other lives at risk to rescue them in this awful weather - foolhardy in my opinion, what say you?

My ex husband was a mountain rescue team leader in the brecons and the first 3 years of out marriage he must have had a dozen call outs to SAS officewrs 'yomping' in the hills with rocks in the backpacks, and getting lost/injured/disorientated. He had to go and find them, that was just wrong in my mind but he did have a plane crash once to go and look for, that was interesting. The lost sheep were the real pain, though he did get a humanitarian award from the RSPCA for rescuing 2 sheep from a crevice. risked his life for sheep. mmm
Sadly I don't think people will learn. This has been happening since time began and most probably will continue to the end of time.
People tend to assume that common sense health and safety advice is there to protect the stupid and doesn't apply to them. Consequently you end up with people - either through ignorance or arrogance - placing themselves in the precarious positions you see in the media because they've seriously underestimated the nature of the environment and/ or the severity of the conditions.
Foolhardy indeed.

I suppose the same can be said for people who drive past closed roads signs during blizzards. Someone has to rescue them.
The same for people who try to dodge railway barriers, someone just yesterday lost his life doing just that, he could have derailed the train and cost countless other deaths.
Theres fools everywhere, not just on the mountains.

They will probably have to pay for their mistakes soon.

Where do we draw the line though ?
Its a grey area, do the Emergency Services start valuating how much an accident could have been avoided and charge accordingly ?
I am in total agreement that they shouldn't have been on the Mountains but I think its unfair to single those particular incidents out, it was probably because there was snow involved and theres currently a national obsession about it.
