Firstly let me say I am sympathetic to anyone with hearing problems and have no real problem with certain programmes having sign language in the bottom corner.

My gripe is that EVERY showing of the Emmerdale omnibus over the weekend has it.

I think it is on 3 or 4 times on differing channels (ITV2 & ITV3) but was wondering if there could be case for asking for one of those to be WITHOUT signing. Just one.

I know that it is purely selfish but find the little man/woman in the corner distracting.

Yes I know what you mean peternut, I have said the same. I now watch missed episodes on I-Player.
Can you not record them during the wk??
Totally agree. All due respects to those with hearing difficulties but you'd think in this technological age there'd be an option on our remote controls to remove the little man/woman from the corner of our screens.
In a better world, all programmes would be signed. Its best to eIther watch the live showing or record it and stay clear of the signed versions if they annoy you.

elliemay1 - As a person of more years than I would like, and also having dinner at about 6 or 6:30 I find myself having a little session where I check my eyelids for holes at about this time. So consequently this means I do not realise until after the show has been on that I need to record it. OK I'll accept there is ITV+1 or the next morning at 'sparrow cough' o'clock (early) but why not have the omnibus as I have requested?

As bravejordy suggests why not make them, as with sub-titles, so that they can be on or off or is technology not up to that?
Although I am deaf too but never learnt sign language just a natural lipreader. I do sympathise with you all about the little man/woman at the bottom because surely a deaf person (like myself) can put subtitles on at any time. I don't understand why the signer has to be there either.
I'm surprised that the signer is there so early on.... I thought they only came out in the middle of the night! I'm also a deaf person, and wish technology could be much better on TV shows regarding subs. There is no need for subtitles to be as bad as they are sometimes - especially on non-live shows. Agree with BraveJordy, we should have the option to remove via remote control.
