Thank you all... you have brains a'plenty.
4 and 3 5th in old money!
I just divide by 5, them times 2.....that's close enough for me.
sorry that's cms to inches. same though and just move decimal point.
I usually divide by 10 to get it to cm (move decimal point one point to the left = 11.5 cm. Then when in centimeters, divide by 10 again - move decimal point another place to the left = 1.15 then multiply by 4 = 1.15 x 4 = 4.60 inches. So easy as you can usually do it in your head.
This type of conversion can be done quite easily by entering '115 mm in inches' into the search box at the top of the screen. It works also for other conversions: £ to $ or vice versa; miles to kilometres; and so on.
Thats ok bookbinder when you are sitting with your laptop or at your PC but my way is easier if you are confronted with cms or mms in a shop. People can be so lazy these days, it's good for the brain to keep doing mental arithmetic!!
Point taken, Ann. To give my ancient brain a rest, however, I have written some useful formulæ on a bit of paper and I keep it inside the case of my pocket calculator. Anything to avoid getting a pencil and paper out!
what i want to know is what are you measuring x x
