Why do some people have them and some not? Are they there as a result of something that happens at birth? Or are they just a darker piece of skin that means nothing?

Various things I've heard about them are...
Could be related to shocks or upsets the mother had during pregnancy.
or a little stranger...
Could be related to a death in a former life.
I didn't say they were scientific explanations!! However, I have a birthmark on my neck and I detest people touching my neck. Perhaps I was strangled in a former life??!!
It's probably just a glitch or flaw in our genetic make up but I think it's more interesting to think otherwise. I've always thought it could be connected with the way you died in a previous life and those who don't have a mark are either in their first life or died naturally. I know now that it's a common theory but I first started thinking it when I was very young.
