Can you cook meat and chicken in one of these?

Are there foods you'd recommend not to cook in a steamer?

Have you got any unorthodox foods you use the steamer for which you stumble on by accident?

Fish cooks well too but chicken is a bit disappointing as it is just 'steamed'
Is that like eating sushi then hippy chick, only it's beef !.
yes, thin chicken or fish with seasoning and some liquid, wrapped in loose foil parcels, shiny side inwards
yep tone, and carpaccio, which is even more raw

What about meat?
How can it be even more raw ?, is it still alive.
We cook prawns in our steamer, and fish - you can do it in layers, the food which needs the greatest heat goes at the bottom. We cook all our veg in the steamer these days.
You'd be able to cook meat in it but it might not look appealing.

I use hob steamers. They are great.
whack a load of flavours like soy, ginger and lemon grass in tilly, you might change your mind

never tried meat, so can't comment OP

soul boy, a good steak should still be lowing....

Ummmm would it be possible to brown the meat before steaming?

I used to use the hob but prefer a steamer with a timer so i can then go and do something else more important
Tony - you've never heard of 'steak tartare'?
Electric steamers use up quite a lot of electricity; much better using a hob. Though as you say Catinahat you can't go away and leave it cooking unless you use a manual timer.
I've got a three tier one from Morphy Richards and its fab. My mum got a cheap one from Tesco and said it was rubbish.
