Only I am sick of having to go through that ritual every year with the AA and so have cancelled. Why can't they give you their best price in the first place? Three years running they've had me having to haggle with them and this year I've gad enough.

I have a straightforward answer to these people who do what you say, LB (and I agree AA are one of the worst).
I phone 'em up, say 'look I doubt this is your best offer to me. I'm about to go online looking for alternative sources of breakdown cover so let's stop messing around and you tell me what your best offer is." (Wait for answer - depending on price quoted, the next line goes: "Last time we went through this palava, your price came down by 18%". If we can agree 18% off this price I'll renew now".
I have Green Flag in mind as an alternative if the AA screws me once too often. Buenchico seems to recommend them, so I think that must be kosher.

I once had to call out an AA man and the result was it needed to be transported to my home address. I asked him what was the position if I only had the standard roadside cover and he said I could add the recovery option there and then. I thought afterwards the recovery option can add £100 or more which seems a very expensive option if you only need it once in 10 years or more.
