Giovanni Di Stefano Finally Convicted
This ghastly fraudster has been finally convicted yesterday at Southwark Crown Court.
He has already been convicted many times over the years for fraud and related criminal activities, mostly impersonating a lawyer. He is best remembered as defending Fred Shipman, Sadam Hussein, and that truly horrible landlord Nicholas van Hoogstraten. In 1990 the Solicitors Disciplinary Council forbade him to be employed by any British solicitor.
So, a thoroughly nasty piece of work, as Eddie Mair might have described him.
But if he had never qualified as a lawyer, how on earth did he get to represent so many clients. ? Can just anyone walk into court and appear in front of a Judge ?
I saw him being interviewed a few times on TV. Indeed he appeared in a BBC 2 documentary, exposing him as a fraud, so why has it taken the powers to be so long to act ? He is starting a 14 year sentence in jail, not before time.
