For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I'd agree with spaced - if you use ready mixed adhesive it normally has enough suction to hold the coving up, although sometimes panel pins are needed to hold it in place.
You also need a mitre block. These can be bought from DIY stores for standard sizes of coving (100mm and 125mm), and allow accurate cuts for internal and external corners. Getting one for 8" coving is a different proposition, though, and you would probably need to try specialist/trade suppliers.
