Help Setting Up Broadband?

My mother, a young 84-year-old, wants to get an iPad. She's not computer literate, but is game to try. Obviously, this will mean that she needs to get a broadband connection - and she's decided BT's the way to go.
I have a few questions:
1) Will an iPad connect to a BT wireless router without that router previously having been configured using a computer?
2) How long does it usually take from ordering BT Broadband to activation?
3) She's got a BT phone line. Will somebody need to come to her house to install a broadband connection?
4) Can one get somebody to go to a house to set up the router (she's in the Derby area)? I seem to remember there were some stores which would do this in the past, does that still happen?

IMO She is making a mistake going with either BT or Talk-Talk,have a good shop around before deciding.

Talk Talk is a bloody nightmare!!

Nobody will need to come to your house unless she needs someone to set it all up for her.

I was like your mum, didn't understand the internet at all. I am with BT Broadband and I have no complaints at all about them. They came and installed the home hub and showed me how to work it, and activated wifi for me so I can use it with my laptop. Yes someone has to come in but they do it by appointment, they check your wiring and bring extra kit into the house. It didn't take long to actually install it - as I recall, it was about 3 weeks from order to completion.

The ipad will work without the router being previously configured, I've just changed my router, I just switched it on and all the devices found the signal.

Just want to add, good on your mum for having a go, she'll love the iPad once she gets used to it.

I'm with BT and have no issues. Gave me a really good deal to join too.

I hope she's tried an iPad before buying.. a laptop may be far more suitable

BT are dreadful ISP in my opinion, they geve me a good deal (or so i thought) just over a year ago. Can't wait till june when i can switch to some other ISP, but it wont be talk talk as mention above, they're a nightmare.

I'm with BT and have never had a problem, even though I'm in a remote area. No gas, no mains drain, but a cracking broadband connection!
