The problem I now have is it appears that XP is no longer supported by Windows update.

Can I still get updates somehow as I cant install other programmes as it requires service pack etc?

I think you can only download the service packs that are available, you may struggle to get drivers that will use xp

I'm amazed to hear previously existing updates are unavailable, that makes no sense. I can understand future ones not supporting XP. Not a lot of help I know, but moral support maybe ?

All is running well again, it took a while! It has cleared the problem of freezing as well thankfully as that is why I formatted.

After a format and new install it reminds us just how quick our PC's used to be!

Its like a flying machine again :-))
I tend to do a re-install about every year. Surprising how much dross disappears.
