Is the communion wine and wafer not a bit macabre, seeing what it stands for?

The ultimate joke in all this is that The Lord's Supper (as it was called) is a pagan ritual introduced into Christianity (as it was not yet called) by Paul.

The quote "He who will not eat of my body and drink of my blood, so that he will be made one with me and I with him, the same shall not know salvation" sounds very like a quotation from the gospel called John. It is actually much older - a quotation from the pagan god-man Mithras.

Jesus would never have performed it anyawy, such symbolism being anathema to Jews.
