Britain is the only country in the world that doesn't have it's name on their postage stamps! Just thought I'd share that with you. Any other little snippets of trivia available?

but if you look various issues of other countries in the 1840s various others didnt either -
Brazil "Bull's eyes" spring (yes readers spring !) to mind
and yes I have checked - Belgique did not appear on Belgian stamps until 1869
British stamps should remain unlabelled was as an agreement with the Universal Postal Union, I think.

Pretty sure wardlaw is right about our national anthem being alone in referring to our monarch. It is, by the way, more than invoking the Almighty to help in our politics (as G B Shaw once summarised it). It is a very crafty reminder to our monarch not to interfere but to ever give us cause to wish him or her a long reign; don't give us cause and you'll go the way of Charles I and, in particular, James II who was replaced by Parliament's choice.
The Dutch national anthem says nothing about their monarch but praises a Spanish one. Now, that is a twist!
