Let's hope that the generally critical reaction to the Norfolk Policewoman's claim (See http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-22000760) is the thin end of the wedge of a movement to bring to an end the litigious mania which is now so prevalent in this country and which has led to the abandonment of such harmless enterprises as pancake races, cheese rolling, school sports and outings, etc etc etc.

And it's H&S who get the blame unfairly.

I don't think that backlash will make a lot of difference. I do think the new Civil Procedure Rules implemented after the Jackson reforms and which came into force yesterday are going to have a HUGE impact. Not least is the fact that "success" fees on no win no fee agreements are now significantly curtailed.

according to yesterday paper, and i am not saying their figures are right, but 20m was quoted for last years compensation claimed by the police,
seems absurd if so, but there you are..

BM has it,as usual. The system, meant to replace legal aid, couldn't have been better designed to make lawyers rich. The claimant lawyer even got 10 per cent to cover the cost of insuring against cases failing, if I read the rules aright, together with an enormous uplift in normal costs claimable if they succeeded (for which read "accepted any offer, however derisory, made to persuade the claimant lawyer to go away rather than run up costs justified in defending")
