Nicknames

Do you have nicknames for your children, or did your parents have one for you?
I was called 'Grizzler' when I was small because I cried so much. I hated it and I'm sure it played a part in my withdrawn personality today. My brother has started calling my younger daughter, 'Tyson' because she flattened an older boy recently, but I fear it will make her cocky and prone to settle matters with her fists.
Am I projecting my own fears here, or would you agree with my brother that it's merely light hearted fun?

Mr Spudqueens family have always had nicknames, and sometimes the reason for it has been lost over time, so I wouldn't worry too much about the Tyson one! Spudqueen is one of my nicknames but we also have Zeus, Monster, Muppet Moonspence, Chickpea, Fudge and Sailor Bunce as various members of the family!

My little boy has a few, his main one and one he answers to is Bud, i called him this cos he was 3 and a half months early and was a 'bud' of a baby!

my mum calls him Spud, his dad calls him BooBoo and we sometimes call him Mr Galooby cos he loves the hoobs.

i was nicknamed Betty as a kid cause I looked like Betty- boo, infact i still get it all the time. I call my eldest monkey and my youngest lumpy. At times they are both called bunny and sausage.

However, my brother is still touchy 28 yrs on when you call him baa-lamb boy, this is due to the fact that he forgot to pack his pyjamas when we went away and he had to wear my pinky red ones with some lambs on it, lol. I dont hink he was effected by this but it might explain why he is such a beefy no hand holding in public kind of tough guy, or not.

My boyf was called Bud by his family too (not his real name) and thats all his family and friends ever call him now. But noone knows where it came from!

loads of nicknames in our family my auntie aka Spike (bad hair life!) Me scratch (obvious) My other halfs name is Graham my cousin thought it funny to name him Golden after the cerial and it stuck, My littlun is called the Little Ripper (she has a lot of wind!) sister called 4play cos her name rhymes with it Faye. Brother called Martin is known as Onz short for Onslow he is also known as FP or Fat pants to his mates . I say its all light hearted fun really.

my parents nicknamed me 'oily' when i was little cos thats the noise i used to make when i was sucking on my dummy.

My dad still calls me oily sometimes (i'm 24) and it always makes me smile

I really think it depends on the nickname. I had loads growing up, including George, witch, Jampot, Jimbo, Jim, and Jai, none of which I minded and some of which I still use. However, a family member used to call me 'Thunder-Thighs' - I know it wasn't meant in a nasty way, but every time I hear it, it makes me want to cry.

Our daughter's nickname is "chickaboo". Don't know why. Its something her daddy came up with when she was a baby and its stuck.

My mum used to call me "Rentagob" sometimes cause I was so noisy!

There is only 11 months between me and my older brother and for a few months after birth I was referred to as the new baby and he was the old baby. This was adapted slightly to 'oldbabies' and has stuck with him for life. He is now 50 years old, 6'5" tall and HATES it when I call him 'oldbabies', particularly in the pub, hehehe!

My 4-year old is nicknamed Little Plocket by us, I won't bore you with details though. And she's LP for short. I nicked my monika from her!!!

My eldest daughter is kitty kat and my youngest is lambkins. Sometimes she is called crusher cos when she was little she had a tendancy to sit on things and crush them. We usually only use that if we want to embarrass her in front of the latest boyfriend but she doesnt mind. My son didnt have a nickname.

My dad called me Delilah after the Tom Jones song, which was a hit when I was younger. I call my sons Jay, short for jamie, which in turn is short for James. My youngest is called Special Egg but only by me.

My dad always called me fanny (as in fannie annie) and my husband calls me fanny even when we first met, dad also calls me Luce, (lucy locket presumably) as I am 30 years old I would prefer to be called by my name now I think :-) my daughters name is Emily but she gets called Ellie Pellie and my son is Jack and gets called spratt man by his friends at school. As long as nicknames are affectionate and not meant with mallice I think its all just a bit of fun really

I call my daughter and niece spooge when they were babies, they are now 11 & 12 and simply tell me not to call them spooge when they are ready. The have also been nicknamed fats and slim and have no hangups about this. I think it should be seen as lighthearted fun as they are only pet names. If you have a loving secure family you should feel comfortable with nicknames.
