my MIL. I mentioned the other week she has Alzheimers. She had to have bloods tests the other week and it turns out her blood isnt making enough blood cells, white I think my BIL said. and in a while if they do not get anybetter she may need blood transfusion. Would this have anything to do with the Alzhiemers or just something different.? many thanks Brenda x

lilac.....I know of no blood disorder that is specifically associated with Alzheimer disease.

If she is not producing cells, red OR white, that will need investigating as there are multiple and differing causes.

There are some studies which appear to show a some correlation between dementia and anamia, especially iron deficiency anaemia, although as yet no one has been able to hypothesise a plausible mechanism.

Insufficient detail to comment any more than that lilac, without knowing more details of the type of anaemia your MIL has been diagnosed with...

Many thanks to you both. MIL has been having regular bloodtests now over the past year. She had anemia and was low on vit D.Other than I am not sure. It was just this time they said she was low in white blood cells. and may in the further have blood transfusions. I know people with Alzheimer can be open to a lot of germs and infections. Brenda x

Ah! if she is Vit D deficient then that may well explain her iron deficiency anaemia,but if her white cells are deficient, then that would be a different "ball game."
