Skype On Windows 8

I have a Skype ID which is used on my late and much lamented XP system.

I now have Windows 8, which i am advised has Skype already loaded.

When I attempt to access Skype, i get a nonsensical message saying the Internet is 'a bit sleepy' - and it refuses to connect me.

Any ideas what I can do?

I have W8 and hate the Skype app that is pre installed.

I downloaded Skype in the usual way from the Skype website and use it exactly as I did in XP.

As hc4361 says, but be careful. If you go straight to the Skype download page, it will detect Windows 8 and want you to download the (cr)app. Underneath that is an option to choose the version for Windows Desktop, and that's the one you want.
