It seemed, from what I read about it, to be cleverly planned and could easily have worked, but like all those big heists it only takes one person to be a bit stupid or careless or loose lipped and suddenly they're all a laughing stock in the morning papers.
Agree with snook, from what i read it was very cleverly planned. The people that planned it were quite experienced at this kind of (criminal) act. It was the most inexperienced member (the speed boat driver) that made a mistake.
The police found out about it and swapped the stone for a fake one
So just remember, never trust an amatuer with important business!!!
