Hopefully this is the right place for it . Yesterday I spent a very surreal and interesting hour driving grandson and 2 friends (all aged 12) for a special treat. They piled into the back of the car with iPod in hand and I expected and resigned myself to be bombarded with radio one, or worse, for the journey. Well...on went the iPad onto, wait for it, Classic FM. They then chatted about the music, picking out the different instruments, remarking on 'this is the bit about the river' and 'now that sounds like the night time with moonlight'. 'Mr. P ' was mentioned quite frequently, who I was told was their music teacher who was playing them classical music at school. What a nice journey I had and I have to add these children are quite 'normal' 12 year olds from mixed social backgrounds and all go to comprehensive schools. One the way back I was treated to insider knowledge on Roblox (sp?) Xbox thingies and how molly b. loves so-and-so but he won't be her friend on Skype. Oh and how J's grandma thinks I should grow up and act my age. I love young people! LOL!

That's smashing seb it just goes to show that the world is still full of lovely people, thanks for that it's made my day. I remember reading a long time ago when there was rioting in Toxteth about an elderly man whose invalid carriage broke down near one of the estates that was in the news at the time as being particularly bad & he saw three black youths coming...

God!!...Thanks for that post.........so glad that you shared it with us....zzzzzzz!
That's lovely Seb....I had a good music teacher who introduced me to classical music and I introduced him to Joan Baez.....we were both happy! x
Regardless of all the scare-mongering, I believe there are far more children around like your grandson and his friends.
It's good that you get to enjoy their company, you can all teach each other important lessons.
Liquid lunch Sqad!!! Now behave or I shall tell you the story of my leg! x

jackthehat, I volunteer to drive a bus that takes 'difficult' children to places and they have been to our home to see the animals. Apart from being called a weirdo on a few occasions, which I tend to agree with anyway, these children never cease to amaze me on how interested they are in all sorts of things, especially when taken out of the environments that are causing their negative behaviours.
That is a lovely story, a much better journey than you expected.

I remember reading a long time ago when there was rioting in Toxteth about an elderly man whose invalid carriage broke down near one of the estates that was in the news at the time as being particularly bad & he saw three black youths coming towards him,he braced himself & one of them said are you alright grandad ? When he answered that he had broken down they pushed him to a local service station. I can feel the tears now that I shed then when reading the news article, & thinking '' there's hope for us all still''.

That's nice to hear, Seb. The kids in our family are 12 going on 21, if you know what I mean.
Kids never cease to amaze.
