that could ever justify to me the obscene amount of money being chucked at margaret thatchers funeral, her kids should hold their hands up, say stop and tell the big spenders to donate it to charity.

For those barrel-scrapers amongst you, do not forget that there will loads of incoming money to the economy too, the spend of Brit people coming out to say farewell, the visitors from overseas and guests coming to London and all they spend on hotels, travel, food and the rest, the phalanxes of cameramen and TV stations, the journos, and so on.
So, in conclusion, look at the exercise as an off-set investment perhaps.

Yes quite, Anne!! If the Conservative Party and its donors wish to stump up the cash for Maggie's funeral, that's fine by me. But to have everyone's taxes pay for this? Well, Mrs T's certainly having the last laugh!
It's quite simply immoral at a time when the Government is cutting back on the NHS, benefits, armed forces, education, and God only knows what else. Aren't riots, the 'Ding Dong' song etc, giving out a clear enough message?
I know she's a mum and a granny, and had loads of friends and family who cared for her, and had the respect of (most of) her political party, but for £8-10 million (depending on what paper you read) to come out of public funds? Wrong! Cannot possibly be justified.
Let Tory party funds and her family pay for it.

I cannot imagine how the Conservative party can't see that this will alienate the poorer members of the electorate even more than they have already managed to so far, but they appear not to live in the real world at all. I think it's an insult to even consider spending that amount of government money on her funeral when so many people and communities suffered under her government and now have to stomach another Tory government's wave of cuts only to have their suffering rubbed in their faces by being forced to fork out for her funeral. The money could be so much better spent.
