Further to your suggestion as to my breathlessness being due to anxiety. This would be a first for me 68 and does it last for 4 weeks without a break. Every day as soon as I get up there the breathlessness is.
What do you suggest for me to do as willing to explore anything which will help. Would the doctor be able to diagnose this and offer help.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to help me

I am 46 now but I had a little period about a couple of years ago. I got up in the middle of the night and felt all sweaty, breathlessness and very agitated. I went to see the doctor and he diagnosed it to be anxiety. I decided not to take any medication and even doctor agreed that taking medication would make no difference or even may have adverse affect. First of all...

see the doctor as soon as possible, they can do tests to ascertain whether it's anything physical, because it could be, and if they rule out any physical ailments causing the breathlessness, then you can ask them to refer you for
counselling. See the doctor first and go from there.

have you seen a doctor about it? a lot of them are quick to fob off symptoms like this as nothing
I'm no expert in this sort of thing, but Google is a blessing: Breathlessness and anxiety are very closely linked. When people experience breathlessness, a common reaction is to become anxious. Unfortunately, becoming anxious also leads to more breathlessness. For this reason, some people can find themselves entering into a vicious circle of ever-increasing anxiety and breathlessness. Breathlessness may occur suddenly or may gradually develop over weeks or months. It can often be a challenging symptom to control. Basic daily activities (e.g. washing and dressing) or types of emotional distress (e.g. anger) can trigger breathlessness. There are things that you can do to prevent or reduce breathlessness; including coping strategies, relaxation and breathing techniques.

First of all knowing what it was helped me and then doctor gave me some breathing exercises to control it in the future. And that worked.
I only suggested an anxiety state as the "last port of call."
Your Dr knows your history and has the results of your investigations, so i would suggest that you return to his surgery, at your leisure, no urgency and suggest to him that an anxiety state MAY be your problem.

gbradfield..........anxiety state is a diagnosis made when all investigations have been normal.

With the symptoms that you describe, i would go and see your GP.
